Refuse-Derived Fuel

Scattered Coal, RDF, Wastecycle
As part of our zero waste to landfill commitment we are able to create Refuse-derived fuel meaning were sending less and less to landfill every year!

Refuse-derived fuel (RDF) is a renewable energy source generated from residual waste streams.Waste is sorted with recyclable products such as plastic or wood, segregated and sent for further processing. The remainder is shredded to produce an alternative to fossil fuel.

Energy recovery combined with other forms of recycling means that we continually improve our recycling rates year on year. This coupled with rising landfill tax and the introduction of the carbon levy means that Wastecycle can provide a financially and environmentally sustainable service

Some Facts & Figures

Through our RDF scheme we have saved over 50,000 tonns of CO²e.To try to put this into perspective the average home uses 2.5tonnes of CO2 per year.  Therefore, by Wastecycle’s proactive actions on recycling and recovery we have saved the equivalent of 20,395 homes energy.
